ave you ever notice that the majority of "dad’s" just don’t seem to care if there kid's smell bad? I mean real bad. Dad’s generally think it is some kind of “Right of Passage” to have stinky bacteria ridden equipment.
Ever heard them say "Oh, please, this is a hockey team. It isn't ballet."

Maybe so, but the problem is:

Would you let your kids swim in water this infected? Then why do we make them do it with sports?

Fact

Bacteria growing on unventilated equipment is up to 3,440 times higher than acceptable levels!
Bacteria thrives in dark and moist conditions!
Just handling neglected equipment is a hazard, but wearing it and grinding it into our skin??

Did you know, in December 2002, Mikael Renberg, then of the Toronto Maple Leafs cut his hand while lacing up his skates. An infection caused his hand to swell like a boxing glove, and led to talk of amputation and even death. Fortunately for Renberg, his hand was spared. But then Leafs coach, Pat Quinn, initiated a program to get equipment tested since a similar ailment forced goalie Ed Belfour to miss four games in October 2001
That's right "dad's who decided to read this section" he missed 4 games....... !
Bacteria = lost ice time.

This thing takes 30 seconds to install, and anyone can do it.

Strike "making sure your kids sports equipment is not toxic" off you list.
